Akhal Teke UK

My thanks go - first and foremost - to those who agreed to be interviewed. Also to
Darya Hannigan, the co-founder of Akhal-Teke UK, who has supported my idea
throughout.
I would like to dedicate this project to the two breeders who brought the joy of
Akhal-Teke into my own life: the late Sharip Yakubovich Galimov who, together
with Leonid Babaev, bred Mualim (how much I would love to interview you, Sharip!)
and Sabine Toepfer-Gebert, who bred and raised my first Akhal-Teke, Altai.

I can’t recall now how the idea of conducting
a series of interviews with “Teke people”
came to me. The diversity of their opinions
and perspectives under-pins the versatility of
our unique breed itself. The aim of this project
is to highlight this diversity and give the
respondents an opportunity to articulate what
the Akhal-Teke horse means to them.
I have no intention of feigning objectivity and
readily admit bias in my choice of
respondents. But I hope that the overall
picture that emerges is a balanced one.
